Quiet down the rats in your brain

negative self-talk Nov 08, 2021

Hey there, I know you're feeling stuck and overwhelmed right now. It's tough when your brain gets caught in a flood of negative thoughts and self-talk, isn't it? Just remember that this is happening because your mind might be craving guidance to refocus or is simply exhausted and needing a break. The key here is to treat yourself with kindness and compassion.

It's important to recognize that your brain might be entertaining itself with negativity. So, why not play along and challenge it? Go ahead and stand in front of a mirror, then ask yourself, "How accurate are these thoughts? Are they helping me right now?" This playful approach can help you gain perspective.

Ready for a little brain hack? Try "changing the channel" on your thoughts. Set a timer for a few minutes and let yourself vent, complain, or worry to your heart's content. But when that timer goes off, it's time to stop and shift your focus. Give it a try – you might be surprised at how much better you feel afterward.

Brain rats! I’ve got brain rats!

A pestilential plight upon my mind!
Brain rats are the wicked thoughts that prove my every flaw.
And every hopeful notion gives them something new to gnaw.
I hear them chewing in the night, and on and off all day.
They’ve really got my number. Aw, the awful stuff they say!
Brain rats! I’ve got brain rats!
A pestilential plight upon my mind!
My mother says she loves me, but no doubt she’s telling lies.
And friends are all just enemies in ingenious disguise.
There’s no one to be trusted, and that’s including me.
The best approach to human beings is fierce misanthropy.
Brain rats! I’ve got brain rats!
A pestilential plight upon my mind!
I need a lot more money than I’ll ever live to earn.
And late at night, I count my debts as I fret and toss and turn.
I’m one step from the poor house. I can’t make it on my own.
I’ll be just like that match girl, dying cold and all alone.
Brain rats! I’ve got brain rats!
A pestilential plight upon my mind!
They torture with such cunning, like little Marquis de Sade.
They wreak unstinting havoc beneath my cool façade.
They tell me I’m worse than everyone; my problems can’t be solved,
And I’m the piece of crap around which this whole world revolves.
Brain rats! I’ve got brain rats!
A pestilential plight upon my mind!
